Chasseneuil du Poitou > cultural centre

The new Salle Culturelle et Festive is situated near the railway station in an district of the town currently undergoing redevelopment. It is positioned in such a way as to limit noise pollution for the vicinities along its southern edge and functions as a sound barrier for these neighbourhoods. To its northern side, it opens onto a landscaped area, also available for activities related with the building’s numerous functions. The entrance hall, at the building’s prow, is particularly spacious and clearly laid out, allowing the general public to get their bearings with ease. An inner patio lies at the building’s heart, allowing natural light to flood in from above and functioning as a green oasis, a place to stop and dream for a while. A high efficiency acoustic screen may be set in place to adapt the typology of the main hall to different events and activities. Acoustics were a major priority in the architects’ design and inspired their aesthetic choices. When the doors onto the exterior spaces are thrown open, the hall extends onto a generously sheltered terrace making best use of the natural dip in the terrain and rising above the forecourt like a superb pedestal, lending an air of magnificence to events going on within, like wedding receptions, for example. The building’s exterior plays on a volume arrangement of gently sloping lines. The stamped concrete used, along with the areas of green roofing, fosters the building’s assimilation as a key public amenity. Concrete has been chosen for the load bearing structure with a steel framework and roofing.
